Our interns support  our team by contributing to meaningful projects designed to make a significant difference in UNGSC, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. 

The Intern will work under the direct guidance of Chief DMU and will be responsible for the following duties: 

  • Data Collection & Processing: Assist with collecting, processing, and evaluating geospatial data (vector and raster) while ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Database Management: Assist with the Designing, developing, and maintaining geospatial databases, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Geospatial Data Services: Assist with producing and maintaining geospatial services, including geocoding and routing, optimizing address matching and navigation.
  • Quality Control & Assurance (QC/QA): Assist with Overseeing rigorous validation of all geospatial data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and compliance with established standards.
  • Data Integration & Security: Assist with the link of gazetteer entries to spatial data sources and metadata while enforcing data security and sharing policies.
  • Data Archiving & Governance: Maintain and archive data catalogs, ensuring structured data management and long-term accessibility.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Requisiti principali:
  • Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    • (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
    • (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • The field of studies must be closely related to the type of Internship you are applying for, such as Geography, Geomatics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Candidate must possess computer literacy in standard software applications such as Office 365 particularly MS Word, MS Excel, Power Point, SharePoint.
  • Candidate must have a strong knowledge of data management principles, including data collection, processing, validation, and integration.
  • Candidate must have a strong knowledge of geospatial data formats (e.g., vector, raster) and database management systems.
  • Candidate must have knowledge of data quality control techniques, metadata documentation, and data governance best practices.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this Internship, fluency in English (oral and written) is required. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
