During the traineeship, the trainee will familiarise themselves with the work of the Casework Unit. Casework in judicial cooperation and coordination matters is at the core of Eurojust’s mandate. In order for Eurojust to deliver quick and quality support to competent authorities, consistent operational and legal expertise is needed. At the same time, it is crucial to retain the lessons learned from cases at organisational level, so that they can be applied to future requests and shared with practitioners and policy makers at a strategic level. The Casework Unit has been created to support in this endeavour National Desks, College Teams and Liaison Prosecutors.

 

The main tasks and responsibilities may include:

  • Collect, analyse and summarise relevant materials, including national courts rulings concerning judicial cooperation matters (e.g. admissibility of evidence);
  • Monitor and disseminate information regarding upcoming legislation, policy papers, meetings and other events of relevance for the mandate of Eurojust;
  • Support in updating the Eurojust Overviews of CJEU case law on judicial cooperation tools (e.g. European Arrest Warrant) and related topics;
  • Collect and compile replies for operational topics or other compilations;
  • Search and analyse case-law in relation to specific legal issues of relevance for Eurojust’s work;
  • Contribute to drafting reports and other deliverables.

Eligibility criteria

 

The traineeship call is open to applicants who satisfy the following eligibility criteria on the closing date for application:

  • Be a national of one of the Member States of the European Union or of EU candidate countries. Exceptionally, nationals of third countries with a cooperation agreement or working arrangement with Eurojust may also be accepted, depending on budget availability;
  • Be a recent university/masters/doctorate graduate, who, by the closing date for applications, has obtained a university/ masters/doctorate diploma;
  • Have a very good knowledge of English (minimum B2 level), the working language of Eurojust;
  • Not have received more than six weeks of any kind of in-service training/internship nor have worked or been employed in any capacity within a European Institution, body, office or agency.

General knowledge, qualifications and experience

  • Completed university degree in law or other relevant fields, involving legal research;
  • Ability to take responsibility for specific areas of work and see actions through to completion ensuring that the deadlines are met;
  • Good analytical and drafting skills and ability to organise information in a structured way;
  • Developed research skills and ability to search for and identify relevant informaiton from court rulings;
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (specifically Excel);
  • Aptitude for team work in international multicultural environment, as well as cooperative and customer-oriented attitude;
  • Excellent knowledge of English both written and spoken, the working language of Eurojust.
