The internship is located in the Office of the Director-General/Executive Director (ODG/OED), Gender Team, United Nations Office at Vienna/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNOV/UNODC). The incumbent will work under the overall guidance of the Chief of ODG/OED and reporting to the Programme Officer (Gender) as first reporting officer and to the Programme Coordinator as second reporting officer.

Duties may include, but are not limited to: 

  • Contributing substantively and logistically in organizing and planning of capacity building workshops, expert group meetings and presentations for partners and stakeholders on the topic of gender in the context of UNODC mandate areas.
  • Contributing substantively and logistically in organizing and planning of awareness raising events and communication campaigns on social media and the website for gender in UNODC mandate areas.
  • Preparing advocacy and information material(s) for a variety of partners and stakeholders—including UNOV/UNODC senior management, heads of Field and Regional Offices of UNODC, Member States and other senior officials.
  • Contributing substantively and logistically in organizing and planning of UN-system inter-agency activities, including and not limited to International Gender Champions Initiative, Friends of Gender, Vienna Discussion Forum and gender mainstreaming activities.
  • Providing logistical support to the male engagement in gender equality initiative at UNODC
  • Assist in drafting and preparing presentations, newsletters and reports.
  • Undertake other tasks and activities as requested.
Requisiti principali:
  • Applicants for an internship must meet one of the following requirements:
    • a) Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
    • b) Be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • A field of study in law, criminology, international relations, political and social sciences, economics, development studies, human rights, gender studies or a related area is required.
  • Applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications. Knowledge of content management systems and related software applications is an advantage. Working knowledge of graphic design and experience with social media management is an advantage. 
  • Previous working experience in a field relating to advocacy and communication, gender and human rights, event organization and capacity building is a strong advantage.
  • Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Ability to plan in person and online workshops and events is desirable.
  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
