The Intern will be supporting the 3D Print as a Service (3DPaaS) project. The 3D Printing as a Service is an initiative aimed to simplify the procurement of specific spare parts in a Field Mission environment, by using additive printing methods. It streamlines the supply chain by minimizing procedural steps and empowering field missions to utilize on-demand, localized production solutions.  Tasks will include:

  • assist the team in designing 3D models using CAD/CAM software (e.g.: Autodesk Fusion 360, Shapr3D, Autodesk Meshmixer, Meshlab, etc.).
  • assist in preparing models for printing using slicing software (e.g.: Ultimaker Cura, Chitubox), optimizing files for different technologies (FDM and SLA).
  • support the 3D scanning process using scanning software (scanner-dependent).
  • contribute to prototyping projects for education, research, or community use.
  • maintain the 3D Printing-as-a-Service Website by updating content, performing basic troubleshooting, and supporting platform development.
  • assist in planning 3D Technology Projects by developing project plans, timelines, and resource needs for initiatives such as product development, prototyping, and research support.
  • help evaluate and improve 3D printing workflows by documenting best practices and recommending Industry 4.0 technologies (e.g., automation, digital monitoring) for real-world applications.
  • support Plastic Waste Recycling Initiatives by helping process plastic waste into usable 3D Printer filament, tracking materials, and assisting with sustainability outreach.
  • Finally, the Intern will actively engage in preparing subject-related workshops and events to promote 3D printing technologies.
