  • Prepare preliminary draft notes, memoranda, letters and /or other Sector’s proposals for submission to member States, Programmes Sectors,and potential public and private partners.
  • Assist in researching and analyzing information provision to briefings for bilateral meetings.
  • Provide assistance in coordinating the Sector’s contributions to Statutory meetings (General conference, Executive Board), and drafting of reports. 
  • Assist in dealing with a wide range of issues of the PAX sector, by providing timely, accurate and specific information in response to queries, thus contributing to maintaining close working relationships with the Delegations, Programme Sectors and Central services, Field Offices, partners and other stakeholders. 
  • Assist in the organization of meetings, events and provide technical support to ensure success of the work team.
  • Update PAX Website on Intranet, notably on information in relations with Member States, UNESCO events, publication etc.
  • Undertake any other tasks which may be assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Conduct in-depth legal research and analysis of questions of international criminal law, public international law, international humanitarian law, human rights law as well as relevant international and national legal materials for reference and background
  • Provision of legal advice on the interpretation and application of the Court’s documents
  • Summary of evidence material; preparation of summaries of submissions and decisions
  • Preparation of legal memoranda, observations of Court proceedings.

 

Chambers is recruiting interns to support the Chambers Working Group (CWG) in relation to the Case Law Database (CLD) Project. The CLD Project is aimed at creating a database of the Court’s jurisprudence. To that end, the Chambers Working Group extracts legal findings from the Court’s decisions and identifies relevant keywords and other metadata (‘head-noting’). The selected candidates will work within the CWG and contribute to the head-noting process under the supervision of the CWG Coordinator. Duties and responsibilities:

As part of the ‘head-noting’ process and under the direct supervision of the CWG Coordinator, the interns will contribute to the head-noting process, which includes the following steps:

  • Conduct in-depth legal analysis of the Court’s judgments, decisions and orders and identify and extract key legal findings and identify relative levels of jurisprudential importance;
  • Identify relevant legal keywords for legal findings;
  • Identify relationships between related judgments, decisions and orders;
  • Collect, organise, and collate other assorted metadata fields for legal findings;
  • Participate in meetings and substantive discussions on issues arising in the CLD Project;
  • Cite-check and edit documents;
  • Assist in the development of other language versions of the CLD; and
  • Perform other tasks, as requested by the CWG Coordinator.

 

The work entrusted to interns falls under one or more of the following categories as per the requirements/needs of each team.

 

Programme and Project Support:
•    Participate in the preparation and review project documents.  Draft notes and prepare technical annexes.
•    Prepare conceptual framework / concept notes on new areas of work or development challenges.
•    Collect, organize and analyze data.
•    Contribute to the production/preparation of documents, working papers, and conceptual framework/concept notes on area of work or development challenges.  
•    Assist in the development of technical support in the development of new interventions or projects.

Research and Knowledge Management: 
•    Undertake specific research and reviews to produce well defined aspects or segments of work products, including publications, documents and project proposals.
•    Contribute to the preparation of knowledge and communication products, materials for advocacy and outreach, related to area of work.
•    Participate in meetings and seminars.

Partnerships: 
•    Analyze and compile background data for potential partnerships and fundraising events and opportunities. Arrange briefings, visits, tours, meetings and other related activities to support collaborative activities.
•    Liaise and build networks with officials in national administrations, researchers, other international organisations and member country Delegations.

Operations Support:
•    Provide administrative and logistical support in the planning and organization of meetings, events, workshops, and conferences in coordination with other staff.
•    Support the preparation of specific budgets, financial and accounting documents, and project documentation and evaluation.
