Daily responsibilities of Treaty-body Capacity-building interns will depend on the individual's background and duties may include but are not limited to Assisting with the coordination of activities related to thematic and country mandates on human rights, including from a gender perspective and coordination activities related to thematic and country mandates on human rights projects, and in particular, the intern may:

  • Contribute to the daily updating of “indexing” of information in the Universal Human Rights;
  • Assist in the development and implementation of training programs in the field of human rights, international humanitarian law, democracy and the rule of law;
  • Support the automation of the Universal Human Rights Index using artificial intelligence and to advance the tagging of recommendations with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and Targets;
  • Research information and develop training exercises for use in capacity building activities on reporting by States to the Treaty Bodies;
  • Support regional Treaty-body Capacity-building focal points in the preparation of national and regional training events;
  • Support countries that are piloting/rolling-out the National Tracking Recommendations Database to strengthen States’ information management capacity on the implementation of human rights recommendations;
  • Perform other related duties as requested by supervisor, as appropriate.
Requisiti principali:


To qualify for the United Nations Secretariat internship programme applicants must, at the time of their submission, applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (i.e. Master's degree or equivalent degree, or higher) or in the final academic year of a first-level university degree programme (i.e. Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree), preferably in the area of law, political science, international relations, social sciences, information technology/information management, statistics or a related field, OR have graduated with a university degree as defined above AND, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period from the date of graduation. 

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English or French is required, knowledge of the other is an asset. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable (i.e. Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).
