• Support in the implementation of purchasing processes standardization

The intern will work with the members of the Local Communities and Indigenous Peoples Platform (LCIPP) unit, under the supervision of its Associate Programme Officer. The intern will perform a range of activities, which may vary based on the nature of the internship (remote or in-person), including but not limited to: 

 

  1. Support the implementation of LCIPP workplan activities
  • Undertaking desk research to support the implementation of activities under the LCIPP second three-year workplan, such as mapping of
    • existing policies, actions and communications which integrate indigenous knowledge systems and persepectives of local communities;
    • existing guidance materials on meaningful and respectful participation of indigenous peoples and local communities.
  • Assisting in the delivery of mandated events under the workplan, including taking notes during events and preparing post-event summary notes.
  1. Communication and outreach
  • Assisting with outreach and communication via social media, e-newsletter, newsroom articles and other appropriate channels to make the work of the subdivision widely accessible;
  • Supporting content management on the LCIPP web portal
  • Producing video and audio content and infographics to extend the reach of the work of the subdivision to diverse stakeholders and contributors;
  • Providing communication assistance to events and meetings.
  1. Others:
  • Contributing towards the organization and delivery of the Vulnerability subdivision’s activities, including actively participating in relevant meetings and events of other adaptation workstreams, and workstreams under other divisions of the secretariat, with a view to gaining understanding of issues; 
  • Assisting in activities requested by the LCIPP Team Lead and others, as needed.

 

Duties of the intern may include but are not limited to the following to helping service meetings of the human rights treaty bodies and their respective working groups or the meetings of the Board of Trustees of the Funds. In particular, the intern may:

  • Prepare country and legal analysis and draft legal background papers for human rights treaty bodies, related to the State party reporting procedure and treaty body-based individual complaints procedure;
  • Conduct research into and draft reports on the jurisprudence of the treaty bodies concerned;
  • Assist with the handling of individual communications received under the different treaty body complaints procedures;
  • Provide support in relation to inter-state communications submitted to the treaty bodies;
  • Assist in the preparation of the Subcommittee on Prevention of Torture (SPT) country visits;
  • Take notes during the sessions/pre-sessions, and provide support with administrative duties such as the preparation of documentation and reference files in advance of and during the session;
  • Provide input to outreach and information tasks, including the Branch newsletter;
  • Support the work of the Universal Human Rights Index (UHRI) and the treaty body documentation databases;
  • Conduct research and develop training exercises for use in capacity building activities on reporting by States to the treaty bodies;
  • Prepare the Weekly Human Rights Treaties Branch Update;
  • Assist with preparation of reports and background papers for the General Assembly, the Human Rights Council (HRC) and the annual meeting of Chairpersons of the human rights treaty bodies;
  • Support the organization of training activities and development of relevant training material;
  • and Assist with evaluation of project proposals for funding; and Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor, as appropriate.
  • Assist in drafting (writing), editing and preparing (designing) communication materials, including social media posts, newsletters, emails, messaging and outreach material.
  • Assist in drafting and reviewing talking points for speaking slots.
  • Assist in taking and summarizing meeting notes.
  • Assist in research, drafting and editing of editorial content for UN-Habitat articles, newsletters, etc.
  • Assist in the design and layout of reports and other documents.
  • Support the elaboration of the annual report, reports from campaigns, media clipping and other reports.
  • Support in the writing of press releases and articles.
  • Support the daily management & promotion of the office presence on Twitter, LinkedIn and other platforms as directed.
  • Ensure follow up on social media platforms on activities realized by the office or partners, as directed. Contribute and ensure the visibility of events, campaigns and key activities of the office through social media.
  • Support the development of communication tools such as infographics, posters, videos etc.
  • Support with creating graphic cards such as social media cards and quote cards
  • Support with monitoring news.
  • Update and management of data bases and calendars.
  • Translation of documents into English or Spanish as required.
  • Support to logistical activities and organization of events.
  • Support the team in preparing policy notes and briefings related to ESM’s mandate and instruments, as well as for collaboration with institutional partners such as the Regional Financial Arrangements and the International Monetary Fund.
  • Assist ESM management and senior staff in preparation for International Monetary Fund and World Bank annual and/or spring meetings, including policy briefings and the setup of bilateral meetings.
  • Address topics related to the deepening of Economic Monetary Union, as needed.
  • Provide research assistance, and/or carry out an agreed analytical project in line with the division’s objectives.
  • Valuation of the Private Debt instruments;
  • Preparation of Valuation Committees;
  • Support in the preparation of the Private Equity Valuation Committee;
  • Preparation and monitoring of the underlying issuers’ ratings;
  • Credit and equity analysis of new investments in preparation of Private Debt Investment Committees;
  • Support in the preparation of the Private Debt monthly Watchlist Committees;
  • Analysis and monitoring of market risk, credit risk, equity risk and liquidity risk; preparation of alternatives investments Risk Committees (such as Private Equity, Private Debt and Real Estate);
  • Implementation of stress tests; improvement of methodologies and tools for risk assessment.

 

Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and duties may include but are not limited to

  • providing assistance with the design and preparation of studies on humanitarian, disaster, emergency relief and other related issues and in various follow-up activities;
  • researching, analyzing and presenting information gathered from diverse sources on assigned topics/ issues;
  • assisting with the preparation of various written documents, e.g. drafts sections of studies, background papers, policy guidelines, parliamentary documents etc.;
  • assisting in the maintenance of reference/ resource information on specific topics or policy-related issues;
  • providing support with the organization of meetings, seminars, conferences, work-shops, etc., and serving as note-taker to such events;
  • maintains awareness of current humanitarian affairs and related issues, to include relevant political, policy, gender considerations or other developments in specific subject area and/or country or region concerned and;
  • performs other tasks requested by supervisor, as appropriate.

In addition to the general responsibilities outlined above, the intern shall be given specific tasks related to the branch/ division of assignment.

  • The intern will in particulare support the communication manager performing the following tasks, among others:
    • Development of project communication tools (e.g. website, visibility requirements, drafting of short project descriptions);
    • Website’s update (events and news section);
    • Social media management (e.g. to promote projects’ results,incl. drafting short texts, selecting visuals, etc.)s;
    • Support communication on project level, notably by guiding and training project managers to plan and implement their communication activities;
    • Proofreading and drafting content for publications and newsletter;
    • Event organisation (e.g. 25 years anniversary, online seminars, on-site trainings for project partners, networking event): planning, roll-out and post-processing.
    • Any other tasks as required
  • Supporting project officers in monitoring the implementation of co-financed projects
  • Supporting in the administrative, organisational and technical implementation of the programme
  • Supporting in the preparation and post-processing of meetings of programme management bodies.
